There are two major reasons why companies generally have massive firings of old temps and massive hiring of new temps:
( 1 ) thanks to the Microsoft Perma Temp Lawsuit, companies face a legal liability in allowing temps to remain on temp assignments at their companies continuously for a year or more. If a temp temps at a company for a year or more, that temp has some legal justification for suing the company to have himself declared an employee. And, ( 2 ) the whole point of having a large supply of temps for word processing centers and secretarial (etc) is for them to serve as a dating pool for the hard-up *ucks at companies who can't otherwise get dates. These tired ass *uckers select a pool of people that they are attracted to to temp at their companies hoping that one or more of the temps will be grateful enough to maybe give it up for a long term or possible PERM. After a while, it always happens that these tired *ucks get bored with their available supply of temps and start looking for new more willing more attractive temps. I may be wrong, but it does appear to me that we are now seeing the start of a massive temp re-stocking wave in Manhattan, especially at investment banks. Out with the old, in with the new?
